Tom Ferncombe, Chairman

Tom is the company's founder and Chairman. Tom started the company more than 40 years ago and has grown the group of companies to a combined turnover of £45M. Tom plays a very active role in the company's affairs both operationally and strategically.




Michael Ferncombe, Managing Director

michael-ferncombeTom's Son, Michael, is the Managing Director of the company. Michael oversees both Cappagh Contractors and Cappagh Public Works. Michael has been involved in the family business all his working career, beginning as a Teenager. He has developed an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of our business. Michael possesses strong business acumen and a keen eye for opportunities to expand the company.



Matt Guest, Director

mattMatt joined the company in 2008. Matt is responsible for all utility and local authority contracts and the strategic development of the business. He has a broad range of experience drawn from more than 15 years in the construction industry, 12 years being in Utility Contracting. He has previously worked for Anglian Water and Morrison Utility Services. Matt has a post-graduate MSc Degree in Water Management, a post-graduate Certificate in Management Studies and is a Member of the Institute of Directors.



Akil Ahmed, Finance Director

akil-ahmedAkil joined Cappagh in 2001 having previously worked for PKF, a top-ten firm of accountants. He is a Chartered Certified Accountant. Akil has overall responsibility for all matters of a financial and legal nature across the business including corporate finance and accounting, corporate tax, company law and human resource matters. Akil is a graduate in Business Finance.



Hendrik Zuurbier, General Manager

hendrik-zuurbierHendrik joined in 2001 as a Contract Manager. In 2004, he was appointed to the position of General Manager, responsible for the day-to-day operation of the utility and local authority term contracts. An Engineer by profession, Hendrik has a wealth of experience having previously worked for Thames Water and the London Boroughs of Sutton and Merton. He has a degree in Mineral and Mining Engineering.



Paul Hambidge, Group Commercial Manager

Paul joined Cappagh in 2015. Paul is responsible for all commercial matters including project reporting, contractual awareness/compliance and commercial process and the subsequent administration thereof. Paul has gained considerable commercial experience and exposure during his 17 years' experience working in the civil engineering industry. Paul has previously worked for Amec, Morgan Sindall, Ferrovial Agroman & VGC Ltd and has worked on a number of high profile projects namely Heathrow Terminal 5 & 2 and Farringdon Crossrail project. Paul has a National Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering.



Louise Powling, Head of Contract Performance


Louise started her career with Cappagh in 2004 having previously worked for Thames Water. In her current role, Louise oversees contract performance for all utility and local authority projects. Louise is an expert in Street Works legislation and systems and oversees the company's in-house planning and streetworks administration centre.



Scott Nicol, Contract Manager

scottnicolScott joined Cappagh in 2007 having previously worked for Laing O’Rourke as a Project Engineer. Scott is responsible for all Airport Contracts and one off Engineering schemes for Main Contractors. This role incorporates all stages of each Project from pre-qualification, Tender submission, all commercials and project management throughout the works to final handover upon completion.



Graham Hearne, Logistics Co-ordinator

graham-hearneGraham has been at Cappagh since 1996, initially joining as an HGV driver. In 1998 Graham was appointed as Assistant Transport Manager and finally to Transport Manager in 2004. He is responsible for the day to day operation and management of more than 100 HGVs and drivers.




Sean Ferncombe, Reinstatement Contract Manager

seanSean joined Cappagh in 2009, initially as a planner on one of our frameworks utility contracts.  He also had a spell working within the transport team before taking up his current role as Reinstatement Contract Manager.  Sean oversees the day to day running of all backfill and reinstatement activity in the London area for the Company.




Dave Fahey,Transport Manager

daveDave has worked as a Transport Manager in Haulage and the Utility sector for over twenty five years.  He brings a wealth of experience in all aspects of road transport operations and is responsible for all Transport related compliance matters within the Cappagh Group Of Companies.





Joe Hawkins,Group Sales Manager

joeJoe joined Cappagh in 2014 having spent 8 years at GRS Roadstone.  Joe is responsible for managing the day to day sales of recycled aggregates and waste disposal, whilst also developing new strategic business opportunities for our recycled aggregates and land regeneration capabilities.
