Our Heritage
Tom Ferncombe
Our founder, Tom Ferncombe, relocated from Ireland to southwest London in the late 1960s, seeking new opportunities during a period when Ireland's economy was primarily agricultural, prompting many to emigrate.
Early on, Tom provided labour to other contractors, picking up Irish labourers from Edgeware Road each morning for jobs across London and the surrounding counties before working for O.C. Summers, laying gas mains and completing drainage work. With a strong reputation built from working for Wandsworth through O.C. Summers, Tom successfully tendered for the contract directly, incorporating Cappagh Contractors in 1973 to begin the formal company history.
