Cappagh Secures Landmark £100 Million Seven-Year Gas Contract with SGN
A defining moment in Cappagh's history
Cappagh Contractors has been awarded a landmark £100 million, seven-year contract with gas distribution company SGN — marking one of the most significant milestones in the company's history and a major step forward in its diversification into the gas sector.
The contract involves the delivery of a GD3 gas mains and services replacement programme across five areas: Aldershot, Oxford, Epsom, Godstone and Orpington. The work centres on replacing ageing iron and steel gas mains with polyethylene (PE) pipe — a fundamental safety intervention that removes the risk of brittle fracture, reduces leakage, enhances network resilience and protects communities across densely populated areas.

Cappagh has formed a dedicated new team to deliver the programme. Back-office functions will be based at the Wolfe Building at Cappagh's Wimbledon head office, with a purpose-built depot in Chessington serving as the central hub for plant, materials and logistics.
The contract was officially launched with a two-day induction event at AFC Wimbledon Stadium, bringing together operational teams, support staff and key stakeholders. Senior SGN managers attended to reinforce messages around safety leadership, customer service and delivery performance. Work has already commenced in Aldershot, with mobilisation across the remaining regions to follow over the coming months.
