Cappagh Volunteers Support Royal British Legion and Dons Local Action Group
Community spirit shines through in Mitcham and Wimbledon
Cappagh's commitment to the communities in which it works has been on display once again, with teams giving up their time to support two local causes close to the company's Wimbledon home.
A team from Cappagh — including Tom Aspinall, Sean Ferncombe, Leighton White and Chez Salvador — worked through heavy rain to create a new vehicle-ready driveway with capacity for 11 cars at the Royal British Legion HQ in Mitcham, formerly known as The Poppy Club. The volunteers spent several hours at the site, supporting the wider transformation of the club room and bar area that has been undertaken by RBL volunteers.
Tom Aspinall said: "The volunteers at the Royal British Legion have done an incredible job restoring the centre to its former glory, and we were proud to play a small part in supporting the work they are doing for the local community. Our team are always happy to give up their time to help come rain or shine — and there was certainly plenty of rain!"
Meanwhile, the Dons Local Action Group — which has been based at Cappagh's Wimbledon headquarters since 2020 — has reached a remarkable milestone. The building that once served as a storage unit for Cappagh equipment has been transformed over the past six years into a thriving warehouse, office and kitchen space supporting hundreds of families in need across three London boroughs. Since 2020, the group has provided more than seven million meals, with food boxes distributed to 2,397 individuals across 980 households in the last year alone.
Craig Wellstead, Co-Founder and Head of Operations at Dons Local Action Group, said: "It's no exaggeration to say that the support of Cappagh has allowed us to do so much more than we ever thought possible and help thousands of families when they need us most. The Ferncombe family deserve enormous credit for the incredible backing they have given us."
