DCRail Delivers One Million Tonnes for HS2 in Landmark Achievement
25 September 2025 marks a milestone in the UK's most intense aggregates operation
DCRail reached a remarkable milestone on 25 September 2025, delivering its one millionth tonne of aggregates for Heidelberg Materials as lead haulier on the HS2 construction contract — the most intense aggregates delivery operation in the UK.
The contract sees trains running from Tytherington Quarry in Gloucestershire to Quainton Railhead in Buckinghamshire, delivering aggregates for HS2 construction works. Over 23 months of continuous operation, DCRail built up to this landmark figure, demonstrating the reliability, capability and operational excellence of the team.
The achievement underlines DCRail's growing reputation as a trusted partner in the delivery of major infrastructure projects. The operation is characterised by its scale, precision and the logistical complexity of running a high-frequency freight service in support of one of the UK's largest construction programmes.
The milestone also illustrates the broader contribution Cappagh's rail division makes to sustainable infrastructure delivery. Rail freight removes significant numbers of heavy goods vehicles from Britain's roads, reducing congestion and cutting carbon emissions compared to equivalent road haulage. Each train movement on this route represents a meaningful contribution to the environmental credentials of the HS2 programme.
