Wandle Fortnight restoration project at Morden Hall Park

We had the pleasure to be a part of the Wandle Fortnight restoration project at Morden Hall Park, organised by Southeast Rivers Trust.

On Day 3 of this two-week initiative, a team from Cappagh joined the Restoration Team with a shared mission: to restore and create bankside habitat improvements that would be a boon for aquatic wildlife in the beautiful River Wandle.

Our activities were diverse and impactful:

Installing large woody materials like deflectors into the river to enhance habitat complexity. Adding plants such as golden flag iris and sedge to previously installed bankside habitats (berms) - this unique approach creates a "snake effect" in the river, increasing water flow and aiding in gravel cleaning.

These efforts aren't just for aesthetics; they're vital for the thriving ecosystem of the River Wandle. Cleaner gravel means healthier fish populations and a brighter future for countless aquatic species.

Kudos to the Southeast Rivers Trust for their tireless dedication to our waterways, and thank you to the incredible team of 9 individuals who worked together to make a meaningful impact.

Let's continue to support and engage in initiatives that preserve and protect our precious natural resources. Together, we can make a difference!
